MACBA – MUSEUM ART CENTER BUENOS AIRES
MACBA – Museum Art Center Buenos Aires – is an organization dedicated on promoting Argentinian cultural practices and contemporary artistic expressions. Located in San Telmo, the historic neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, MACBA plans to open its doors on Mars 2012.
MACBA Collection consists of a selection of abstract, geometric and contemporary art, however the museum is interested on different tendencies beyond these movements. The collection owns pieces from Argentinean local and international artists from mid 20th Century up to present days.
Aldo Rubino and Constanza Cerullo, directors of MACBA, want to place the museum in Buenos Aires´ cultural route by programming different activities linked to the promotion and research of artistic expressions.
ART FIRST
“Art First” is the premier public presentation of 40 pieces from the collection and displays the tendencies of the museum.
The exhibition, curated by Constanza Cerullo, does not aspire to present a historical journey but to suggest to the viewers various dialogues between the artists. “Art First” attempts a response to understand the expressions of geometric abstraction in different contexts, historical and geographical, represented on the selected corpus.
In conjunction with the exhibition, MACBA has published a catalogue with full-colour reproductions of the entire works on display, a curatorial essay and the introduction of MACBA Collection.
